Setting Goals

Let’s chat goals. The best thing I was ever taught by a mentor of mine (a beautiful family friend) was the question “why?”

My beautiful adopted grandad John once asked me “why is that your goal?” Is it a goal because you want to achieve what someone else has? Or because you saw them do it & it gave you evidence that it was possible?

When we see each other lifting I often have members say to me a few things when they see someone achieve a new PB/small victory.

✨”I could never do that, I’m not even gonna try” = a permanent no

🤔💕I’m not sure if that goal is for me today/right now but I can try X instead” = curiosity & openness to learn

💡They have inspired me to see it’s possible & I’m setting realistic expectations that lifting 100kg will take me time & patience = a learners mindset

Which one are you? Remember you don’t have to have a goal to “lift heavy” but you might like to explore the following instead:

💕I’m willing to learn how to hip thrust

✨I’d like to do more reps next time I try X movement

🌈I’d love to lift 2-5kg heavier in the next month when I try a X movement

Progressive overload takes time but if you track posture, range of motion, stability not just “KG” lifted you will feel more success & it’ll make your lifting journey way more fun as you go!
