Careers @ the SCS
Are you a body positive, mental health aware personal trainer?
Hi, I’m Chloe Sutton, I founded The Self Care Sisterhood in 2017. Years on and in our third building- we now call Broadmeadow home for our Girl Gang! I created The SCS as I found SO many women unable to access movement due to body shaming, diet culture, food policing and fat phobia. We now attract incredible women of all ages and sizes who simply want to move their bodies in a safe, HAES-approach, mental healthy studio- minus gym lads, mean girls and body shaming. Our Girl Gang is super loyal and values teachers who advocate for them in fitness, self care and self compassion.
Here’s The 411 on us…
We are Newcastle’s first female only, mental health friendly, body positive studio. We provide fun, inclusive small group classes & personal training- free of mean girls, gym lads and body shaming. We provide a safe space for women to move for their minds first (and that everything is an added bonus!).
The Self Care Sisterhood Core Values:
She Moves For Her Mind- our SCS mindset. We move for our mental health first, strength & self care- anything else is an added bonus! Self Compassion and Grace are important to us.
Self Care Isn’t Selfish: We move to fill up our ‘energetic bank balance’ - We value flexibility and empathy.
Health At Every Size (HAES) - Weight-neutral, health focused care. No Diets.
Options for ALL bodies- Inclusion and Accessibility for all.
Girl Gang first. Fitness Second- Community with real heart & soul.
No Mean Girls Allowed- Acceptance and Diversity are valued here.
SCS Coaches Core Focus
Deliver superior coaching to all members to ensure options for all bodies and raving fans
Dedication to reviewing class programming regularly to ensure clients are able to progress towards their own movement goals, whilst making sure all classes programmed meet our guidelines for: options for all bodies (modifications prepared), fun & community building & interesting sessions.
A commitment to high quality coaching through regular professional and personal development (including your own self care!)
Personal Trainer Roles & Responsibilities
aka the nitty gritty of delivery
Actively demonstrate the “how” of movement in class through precise, easy to understand exercise demonstrations, using memorable cues, using the P.R.S.L model (Posture, Range of Motion, Stability & Load), provide modifications for all clients to ensure all clients can move with joy. This means you will need a good knowledge of progressions, regressions and alternatives.
Being comfortable with giving options via physical adjustments (ensuring to ask permission first) and never leaving poor form unchecked (ever!)
Enter-training - this means delivering fun, exciting & interesting sessions through what we call “The Cheerleader” mode - aka no screaming- we want to uplift, encourage with fun cues, using your voice (aka no monotone voices please!) and actively encouraging individual members (yes learning names!)
Upholding our “Health At Every Size” philosophy: this means no diet talk, calories, weight gain/loss talk, no cooking analogies - e.g. shred those abs, burn those calories. This is a red flag for us.
Create class programs and individual programs that include the main movement groups in all sessions: vertical push and pull, horizontal push pull, squat, hinge, core: anti-rotational, rotational, isometric.
Our Philosophy for all teachers/coaches:
To provide high quality, one of a kind inclusive, weight-neutral movement sessions designed for all bodies to participate. We provide boutique small group fitness for women to ‘move for their minds’ and to move with joy not judgement, shame or guilt!
To work alongside Chloe & the SCS team so all SCS members receive an outstanding ‘Silver Service’ experience- think going the extra mile so all of our girl gang are cared for, given modifications where needed and fully equipped to thrive in their bodies- mentoring them to honour their bodies. This also includes client care, customer service & working with staff.
To encourage and role model our Girl Gang Code: This means upholding the values of “She moves for her mind” (mental health friendly fitness) and Self Care isn’t selfish and most of “No mean girls allowed”.
