MEMBER LOVE NOTES

  • "This gym really *gets* the mind-body connection. The principles of move for your mind first is such a revelation to me after years of bossing my body at gyms; thinking that was the only way. I’m learning so much about myself as well as progressing toward my goals. I love that I feel challenged and supported by the coaches and team at SCS, and that I always feel so welcomed and included by the other members."

  • "Wow! I still pinch myself that I’ve stumbled across this little gem. SCS is more than just a gym. It’s a beautiful, small community focused on kindness, love, support and moving for your mind. Classes are catered to all fitness levels, interests and health needs and best of all, it’s a judgment free, inclusive safe space to move your body the way you want."

  • "Becoming a member of the Self Care Sisterhood is the best decision I have ever made for both my physical and mental health. The coaches are just amazing and have a genuine passion for creating a safe, inclusive JUDGEMENT FREE space for all members. My previous experiences at other gyms left me extremely anxious to start going again but as soon as I walked into SCS I felt accepted, comfortable and where I was meant to be!"

  • "The best place to move your body. The staff are so approachable and knowledgeable. They are all about their motto of moving for the mind. They are body inclusive and LGBTQIA+ friendly. I really enjoying working out there, lifting weights and the classes are fun."

  • "Joining the SCS has been transformative for me. Coming out of the COVID fog I knew I needed to get back into regular exercise for both my body and mind but was reluctant to go back to my last gym. I wanted a place that had a sense of community, connection, where I wasn't just another faceless member. SCS provides all that and more. Chloe and her wonderful trainers have taught me so much about honouring how both my body and mind feel in the present moment and learning how to adjust my workouts to suit. I actually look forward to going to the gym now :)"

  • "Becoming a member of the Self Care Sisterhood has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. The sense of community and the focus on joyful movement free from diet culture and shame is a breath of fresh air and unlike any ‘gym’ I have experienced before. As a physiotherapist I have a very high standard about the skill and knowledge I expect from trainers that I work with, and these girls are top notch. I feel safe and supported to try new movements, progress or regress weights, and avoid injury. Cannot recommend this place highly enough! ❤️"

  • "I have never exercised regularly. I have never stuck at physical movement for more than a few months, maximum. I only ever exercised when I wanted to lose weight. Yet after almost 4 years, here I am - still at SCS! This place is welcoming, encouraging, supportive, challenging and above all friendly. I don't remember the last time I thought about exercise as a means to weight loss- now it's all about how the exercise makes me feel. If you want to do yourself a favour, just JOIN! It's the best decision you'll ever make... for your own sake 💙"

  • "The most supportive and inclusive workout space for women in the Newy area. Accepting of all shapes, sizes and walks of life there is no where else I’d encourage you to join! Chloe and the team always have modifications in classes available to suit and support your body’s capabilities. I attended class weekly until I was 33 weeks pregnant and always felt I could keep up and join in even when I couldn’t do certain activities - because there was always a modification available!"

  • "What an incredible place! 🙏 No Bullies Allowed (including your own inner mean girl/voice) 🤐 It's not just a gym or studio, it is so much more. The motto "Move for Your Mind" and the space Chloe and the Team have created, makes this a haven for all. 👏 Walking in to the studio, you feel like you're home, you're surrounded with love and support, you're part of a community, you're exactly where you need to be! The classes have options for all bodies and are lead by friendly, inspirational and strong instructors. You move/workout at your own pace and strength 💪 "Showing up is your biggest victory!" ✌️ I highly recommend and would give more stars if I could, The SCS is a gamechanger ✨️"

Meet Chloe

Founder + Head Coach

Hi I’m Chloe - I started The SCS in 2018 after struggling to find a place to move that made me feel safe, gave me options & had a friendly supportive community.

So I made it for myself first!

My mission is to help you build body trust, get strong + find a movement routine that lights you up.

You don’t have to do it alone -join our kind, supportive community + feel freaking amazing.

No mirrors, no ego lifting + LGBTQIA+ affirming.

Our motto is ‘Move for your mind first - and the rest will follow!’

Can’t wait to meet you!

  • In 2012 I completed a clinical pilot trial at Newcastle University called “Healthy Bodies, Healthy minds”. It was an exercise physiology program for women w/depression. We did strength training & conditioning 3 x per week. I was a broke uni student & we got gift cards for attending - sign me up!

What I was NOT prepared for was for it to literally CHANGE MY LIFE!😳 How have I gone my entire life never being taught how to get stronger? Why as a woman have I never been taught this?

I learnt how to weight lift, mobilise, how to use all the gym equipment and it was like a veil had lifted. I never knew how AMAZING my body and mind could feel from regular exercise…

Why as a woman have I never been taught this?

I never knew how AMAZING my body and mind could feel from regular exercise…

I was able to move through my depression & anxiety through movement. I had another tool in my toolkit that I could use whenever I needed it (alongside psychology and meds).

And so I harassed Adri our trainer with every single question I could!

How do you use a barbell?

    What’s a deadlift?

    What is a core exercise?

What do reps & sets mean?

How do I do single leg exercises?

Luckily Adri had all the answers & one day planted the seed “have you ever thought of going into training or exercise physiology?”I laughed at her suggestion.

But years later my life imploded - I was bed bound w/ migraine & endometriosis for 2 years. Every part of me screamed to be able to move- to feel strong! To feel capable!

My mental health took a turn for the worst & I’m very lucky to still be here today. Then we moved house & I found my old training journal from Adri & it inspired me to consider teaching in a different way.

Surely there were women like me who needed access to fitness? Who didn’t feel like they belonged at mainstream gyms? Who wanted to feel strong but were terrified of the grunting gym bros & mean girl culture?

So I became a PT in 2017. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done (post 2 years bedbound!) I was the slowest one there 🤪

But I did it! And that’s how The SCS was born!
